QUICK FACTS
- There are over 80,000 uninsured individuals living in Washington County
- Project Access currently counts on over 1,500 physician volunteers around the Portland Metro area
- *Project Access is a successful national model that began in 1996 in Asheville, North Carolina*
- Currently there are over 50 established Project Access programs in the United States. These programs work by engaging physician volunteers at a level comfortable for them, and recognizing those volunteers for work they are likely already doing.
- In Washington County, and around the region, all hospitals and health systems are participating in the Project Access effort. Project Access Washington County has the strong support of both local and regional partners to help face the challenge of a growing uninsured population in our area.
- Project Access staff help to coordinate care for patients by reminding them of their appointments, arranging for interpretive and transportation services when needed, and generally guide patients through their care to ensure the most sucessful experience for both patient and provider.
- Project Access Washington County volunteers will be recognized for their commitment to the underserved on a regular basis.
