PROJECT ACCESS CLARK COUNTY: Physicians and Health Care Providers

All you need to do is provide the care. Let us do the rest.

Many physicians and health care providers choose to practice medicine because they want to make a difference in the lives of others. Project Access celebrates this altruism and offers a way to make a difference right here in our community in a way that is organized, safe and equitable.

Project Access makes it easier to serve the uninsured. Project Access Clark County patients will have access to the specialty and ancillary services they need. The Project Access system is designed to allow you to order tests, schedule hospitalizations and care for your uninsured patient in an efficiently coordinated manner.

We want to help you do the right thing. As a program of Free Clinic of Southwest Washington, Project Access Clark County is the vehicle that helps you use your professional talents to easily serve the low-income uninsured members of our community.

About Project Access

Project Access is a nationally replicated model that uses a coordinated volunteer physician network to provide health care to low-income uninsured individuals. Project Access Clark County coordinates services for people with an identified specialty medical need who do not have health insurance, do not qualify for publicly funded coverage, and have income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.

Patients who have specialty medical needs may be referred to Project Access Clark County by a practicing physician. Referrals to Project Access may not be made from the Emergency Room. Project Access uses a database that tracks the number of referrals offered by each physician and equitably distributes patients amongst volunteers in each specialty on a yearly basis. You will not be asked to provide for more than the number for which you register, and may change this number at any time.

How is this different than what I already do?

Project Access is an efficiently organized system that quantifies and coordinates the charity care you may already be providing. Patients in each of the local Project Access initiatives will have access to medications, hospitalizations, lab testing, diagnostic imaging and other ancillary services. The Project Access system is allows you to order tests, schedule hospitalizations and care for your uninsured patients in a manner very similar to the process for caring for insured patients. With Project Access Clark County, all you have to do is provide the care. Let us do the rest.

Liability

Thanks to the advocacy of other Project Access initiatives in Washington State, the 2004 Washington State Legislature expanded the Good Samaritan Law to significantly increase malpractice immunity to physicians who provide charity medical care through Project Access. In order to receive this increased immunity, physicians must have a signed written participation agreement with their local Project Access initiative.
