 Fact Sheet

If you believe that access to healthcare is a basic human right, Project Access NOW is the right place for you.

The Portland/Vancouver metropolitan area is home to more than 300,000 uninsured people. Less than half receive basic medical care through safetynet clinics: non-profit clinics that provide free care to uninsured and underinsured people. Most of the rest either go to the emergency room, or go without care.

Project Access NOW coordinates a network of healthcare providers who donate medically necessary healthcare to qualified individuals. This vital work is made possible by people like you, who realize their potential to make a lasting impact in so many lives. The clients of Project Access NOW need your help!

We depend on volunteers. Getting involved sends a powerful message to the most vulnerable in our midst: We are a community that cares.

 Featured community volunteer: Shannon Kelley

Shannon Kelley learned about Project Access NOW through her former co-worker, Janet Hamilton, when Janet started volunteering several years ago, before being hired as Project Access NOW’s Director of Operations.  Shannon attended the annual Bridges to Health Care events starting in 2008 and was “mesmerized by Project Access NOW’s mission, Executive Director, Linda Nilsen-Solares and the entire dedicated staff.”

The organization Shannon worked for underwent several changes and in June 2011, she was let go from her position as the Office Administrator. “It was an unexpected devastating blow after 9 successful and memorable years. I was 55 years old and unemployment was at an all time high.”
