Timeline of Project Access NOW
September 2007: Physician Kick-Off Dinner. Technical assistance from Hamilton County TN Project Access Program with emphasis on operations and recruitment.
July 2007: In-kind and cash commitments from all OHSIC members in place.
June 2007: Project Access NOW and UWCW formalize their strategic partnership. First major donation from Pacific Source Foundation, followed up by an award from Kaiser Permanente.
May 2007: Regional Database training/configuration.
April 2007: Project Access NOW is officially incorporated as an Oregon public benefit corporation (non-profit). UWCW becomes the fiscal sponsor of Project Access NOW.
March 2007: Project Access NOW approached by the United Way of the Columbia-Willamette (UWCW) to consider a strategic partnership.
February 2007: Operations Committee holds a retreat to discuss governance and general direction of group.
January 2007: Program staff contracted and begins work. Presentation to OHSIC results in adoption of Project Access NOW as a priority for OHSIC. All OHSIC members agree to participate in Project Access NOW and to provide cash or in-kind support to the effort.
December 2006: Commitment received for additional funding from SNE to purchase a regional database.
November 2006: Project Access NOW adopts a draft business plan and is invited to present it to Oregon Health Systems In Collaboration (OHSIC) as a first step for regional health system support.
October 2006: The Operational Committee officially adopts the name Project Access NOW (standing for Northwest Oregon and Washington and the sense of urgency), receives commitment of funding from SNE and the Medical Society of Metropolitan Portland to fund a staff person.
September 2006: Representatives from the four counties along with health system representatives come together supported by SNE staff. This group is referred to as the Operational Committee.
August 2006: Tri-County Healthcare SafetyNet Enterprise (SNE) brings technical assistance from the American Project Access Network (APAN) to the region. Representatives from Clackamas, Clark, Multnomah and Washington Counties participate and identify some activities that would benefit from regional coordination.

Origins of the Project Access model of care
The Project Access system was developed in 1996 by physicians in the Buncombe County Medical Society in Asheville, NC. It has since won numerous awards and recognition, including an Innovations in American Government award. Communities all across the country are now replicating this model of care.
