Limitation of Liability for our Physician Volunteers

Register with the Board Of Medical Examiners
Oregon House Bill 2554, passed by the 1999 Legislature, limits the liability of Oregon-licensed physicians, physician assistants, and certain other health professionals for injury, death, or other loss that may arise from services they provide without compensation. Register with the BME to see patients in your office.

Volunteering at a Safety Net Clinic
Multnomah County Indemnifcation
Multnomah County Health Department (MCHD) provides indemnification for medical professionals volunteering in a safety net clinic. You are requested to complete the MCHD application and references paperwork below and submit it to the clinic where you wish to volunteer. Clinics will then submit the paperwork to MCHD.

Indemnified volunteers must submit a request for renewal of indemnification every two years
“As of October 17, 2007 Multnomah County Health Department will allow the following expanded list of volunteer licensed health care professionals to apply for indemnification, including but not limited to: “
- MD/DO, Dentist
- Nurse Practitioner
- Naturopathic Physician
- Chiropractor
- Registered Nurse
- Retired Physician
- Physician Assistant
- Podiatrist
- Acupuncturist
- Optometrist
- Licensed Massage Therapist
- Registered Dietitian
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker
- Licensed Psychologist
- Certified Laboratory Technician
- Licensed Physical Therapist
- Occupational Therapist
- Certified Medical Assistant
- or any licensed or certified health care professional approved by the Health Department Medical Director on a case by case basis.”
